Pretoria - Minister of Communications Faith Muthambi is on Friday visiting Lephalale, in the Waterberg region of Limpopo, to encourage residents to exercise their hard-won right to vote in the 3 August Local Government Elections.

The visit is also aimed at reminding the community that these elections must occur in a climate of peace, security and tolerance.

Minister Muthambi is visiting the region in her capacity as a member of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Local Elections.

“We are a peace-loving nation. Our beloved icon, Nelson Mandela, left us with a legacy of peace and tolerance. As we approach these important local government elections, let us remind each other that when we commit to peace, we are living the values of the great Madiba,” said Minister Muthambi.

Her visit is a follow up to the one that she made in November 2015, to officially open a National Imbizo Focus Week. It also comes two days ahead of the visit by President Jacob Zuma on Sunday.

“As government we are confident that these upcoming local government elections will be free from intimidation.

“Nonetheless, we urge all South Africans to desist and condemn actions of thuggery and hooliganism, in particular the wanton destruction of institutions and property,” the Minister added. – SAnews.gov.za
