Pretoria - Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga today visited one of the 121 National Senior Certificate (NSC) marking centres.
During her visit at the centre, the Minister engaged with markers who are wrapping up the marking of scripts at the Pretoria High School for Girls marking centre.
About 49 000 markers were employed to complete the process of marking and Minister Motshekga thanked them for their hard work during this very onerous process.
“I was a marker at one point myself so I know it is not an easy job sitting day in and day out marking these scripts. Thank you for your dedication in ensuring that the scripts are marked on time and thoroughly,” said Minister Motshekga.
The marking process has taken place smoothly with no incidents reported that could impact the integrity of the results.
The Minister was pleased with what she witnessed at the marking centre, where processes could be seen to be running efficiently.
A total of 801 688 candidates wrote these exams across 6 797 examination centres across the country. Marking centres are wrapping up their work and data capturing of the results has begun.
These scripts will then be moderated by Umalusi, the Council for Quality Assurance in General and Further Education and Training, and the process of standardisation will begin.
The Minister thanked all officials who have been part of this exam process, who have done their work with dedication and integrity, often working extremely long hours under difficult circumstances.
She also thanked those who will be sacrificing their festive season holidays to ensure that she is ready to announce the results of the class of 2015 on 5 January 2016. – SAnews.gov.za
