Pretoria-Western Cape Community Safety MEC Dan Plato has welcomed the arrest of five suspects in connection with the murder of Sergeant Theophilus Xolisa Mlindwa.

“I welcome the swift action by the South African Police Services’ Directorate for Priority Crimes, the Hawks," he said in a statement on Sunday.

He said the arrests, less than a week since the crime was committed, were confirmation of the SAPS's capability and sent a strong message that crime will not go unpunished.

Mlindwa, 41, from Gugulethu was found with multiple gunshot wounds next to his vehicle in Faure Road in Mfuleni near Kuils River on 30 June.

Two police officers were gunned down on the same day in Nyanga while pursuing a suspected stolen vehicle.

“I trust that the arrests already made will be followed through with successful convictions. I urge the different communities where these crimes have been committed to share information with the authorities to ensure that those responsible are brought to task,” said Plato.- SAnews.gov.za
