Pretoria - Matriculants have completed their National Senior Certificate (NSC) examinations today, and the Gauteng Department of Education says the management and administration of the exams was successful.

The department said candidates wrote their last paper on Visual Arts for three hours on Friday morning and they are writing Music P2 Comprehension (1½hrs) exam in the afternoon.

“This year, we have seen a drastic reduction in the number of irregularities and a more coordinated approach in the management and administration of the examination in the province. Exam materials were successfully escorted to nodal points on time.

“The province was also administering the common examinations for the first time this year. The common examinations also went very well. Any technical issues that did not affect the credibility of the examinations were dealt with,” said the department.

The NSC examinations commenced on 26 October, with a record of 112 050 and 38 628 full-time and part-time candidates respectively, totalling 150 678.

The total is an increase of 6 972 compared with the 2014 enrolment of 143 706 registered for the NSC.

“MEC Panyaza Lesufi has expressed his sincere gratitude to all officials who oversaw the NSC examination process. Marking of the papers will commence on 30 November 2015… We wish all our learners the very best of luck and success,” the department said.

Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga will release the results on 5 January 2016, while the Gauteng Provincial Government will release the results on 6 January 2016. - SAnews.gov.za
