Marking of matric papers underway

Tuesday, December 1, 2015

Pretoria - A number of provinces have started marking scripts after the successful completion of the matric exams.

On Friday, the Eastern Cape Department of Education said more than 110 912 registered National Senior Certificate candidates, including 91 810 full time and 19 102 part time, finished their 2015 final examination on the day.

They started examinations on 26 October.

The provincial department said all its 23 education districts reported smooth and error free exams. Marking commenced in all the 18 provincial marking centres this past weekend and is expected to conclude on 15 December.

“Eighteen Irregularity Investigators were appointed to handle irregularities in their entirety. They will be stationed at the marking centres to investigate and adjudicate all irregularity cases.”

Capturing of marks will be completed by 18 December.

“The province is fully prepared to capture the marks as per the Examination Management Plan. The department is working very hard to ensure that we deliver a credible high quality examination, and continues to implement astute monitoring and oversight capacity in all examination centres in the province,” said the department.

The Free State Education Department on Monday also said it trusted that learners have done well in the examinations.

“We therefore look forward to good results and that we will achieve our target of 90% provincial pass rate and 40% bachelor passes,” said the department.

The department thanked principals and teachers for the smooth running of examinations at different centres across the province.

“The marking of scripts will happen at 17 centres across the provinces. About 2 500 marking personnel have been appointed to discharge of this duty.

“Marking will be concluded on 14 December 2015,” said the department.

The North West Department of Education and Sport Development on Monday said it also applied all mechanisms possible to ensure that examinations start and finish well for all candidates.

The department said this helped all 33 844 candidates who sat for NSC examinations in the province to finish their examinations without disturbance, despite untimely civil protests that threatened the course.

“The department moderated the situation by moving candidates to less risky examinations centres with on-going monitoring by the department’s senior management,” said the department.

Matric results in provinces will be released on 6 January 2016 after Basic Education Minister Angie Motshekga’s announcement on 5 January 2016. - SAnews.gov.za
