Pretoria - A Lebanese man has been arrested after he was found with gold bars worth R7 million at OR Tambo International Airport, said the South African Revenue Service (SARS).

“SARS customs officials intercepted a Lebanese male passenger en route to Dubai carrying 17 rectangular gold bars and three circular bars weighing 23kg worth more than R7 million at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday,” said the revenue service on Monday.

According to SARS, the man was leaving the country without proper documentation on Sunday. His luggage was scanned and irregular images were identified and a hand search found these to be gold bars estimated at R7 033 600.
