Man bust with cocaine at OR Tambo

Pretoria - The South African Revenue Service (SARS) has intercepted a man carrying cocaine worth R1 438 500 at OR Tambo International Airport.

“SARS customs officials intercepted a male passenger who was in possession of a 5kg cocaine package with a street value of approximately R1 438 500. 00 at OR Tambo International Airport yesterday,” said the revenue service on Monday.

Initially the traveller indicated he had no luggage and upon further questioning the traveller admitted to be the owner of a bag that was allegedly handed to him in Sao Paolo.

“A thorough search and scan of the luggage that included the use of a detector dog found three smaller bags that contained cocaine.

“The traveller and the cocaine were handed over to South African Police Service for further investigation and possible prosecution,” said SARS. – SAnews.gov.za
