Mall robbery suspects to appear in court soon

Thursday, November 6, 2014

Pretoria - The South African Police Services (SAPS) on Thursday said three suspects arrested in connection with mall robberies in Gauteng are expected to appear in court together soon.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant General Solomon Makgale said their court appearance will occur once all the dockets in the suspects’ cases have been consolidated.

He said two of the suspects, Collin Moyo, 31, and Kaizer Dube, 42, were arrested in connection with the robbery of a shop in the Vaal Mall and another one in Irene, Pretoria.

“[They] appeared in the Vereeniging Magistrate’s Court yesterday… their case was postponed to 14 November 2014 in order to allow the detectives more time for further investigations,” Makgale said.

He added that Moyo and Kaizer Dube were arrested nearly two weeks ago by SAPS Crime Intelligence Division members and the Tactical Operation and Management Section in Gauteng.

Makgale said the two suspects were already on the list of wanted suspects in connection with the robbery of another shop in Irene, Pretoria.

They were arrested hours after the Vaal Mall robbery, south of Johannesburg.

“At the time of the Irene robbery, Moyo, Dube and the two other members of the gang who are still at large, allegedly escaped in a Toyota Quantum,” he said.

Makgale said the third suspect, Takalani Tshalibe, 31, was caught in Olifantsfontein after a high-speed chase in an Audi, which was found to have been stolen in a robbery in Secunda, Mpumalanga.

“Tshalibe, who will be appearing in the Pretoria Magistrate’s Court alone this Friday, will face two charges of robbery and possession of a stolen motor vehicle,” Makgale said. - SAnews.gov.za
