Friday, February 27, 2015

Pretoria - The Department of Labour, in partnership with the Commission for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA), will host the last in a series of labour law amendment sessions designed to educate stakeholders on the implications of the amended laws.

The road shows are targeted at employer organisations, trade unions, academics, human resource practitioners and the public at large.

All the road show presentations start at 9am and end at 1pm. So far, sessions have been held in Cape Town, Kimberley, Bloemfontein, Johannesburg, Durban, Polokwane and Mbombela.

The presentations focus on the protections of vulnerable workers; broad changes in regard to temporary employment, which is now limited to a period not exceeding three months; unfair discrimination and issues relating to equal pay for work of equal value; the regulation of labour brokers and enhancement of the labour market institutions such as the CCMA and labour courts.

There is also a special presentation on the newly-developed Employment Services Act, which regulates the placement of work seekers and recruitment of foreign skills.

Next week, the road shows will be held on Monday at Kat Leisure Osner Hotel Office Suites in East London.

On Tuesday, it will be at ETC Conference Centre in Port Elizabeth.

On Thursday, the road show will be at Safari Lodge Hotel & Convention Centre in Rustenburg and at the CSIR Conference Centre in Pretoria on Friday. – SAnews.gov.za
