Pretoria - The Department of Labour will investigate a house which collapsed in Meyersdal, south of Johannesburg, and claimed the lives of at least seven workers.

“The department has dispatched a team of inspectors to investigate, after which they will issue a preliminary report on the cause of the accident,” Acting Ministerial Liaison Officer, Mokgadi Pela, said.

Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality spokesperson, Themba Gadebe, said seven people died and eight others were injured when the house they were working in collapsed on Monday at the Meyersdal Eco Estate.

Eleven people survived and no one had been reported missing.

“The search continues to make sure that we have covered all our ground,” Gadebe said.

Labour Minister Mildred Oliphant conveyed her condolences to the bereaved families and wished a speedy recovery to those in hospital. – SAnews.gov.za
