KZN NPOs urged to apply for funding

Monday, June 9, 2014

Pretoria - The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Arts and Culture has appealed to non-profit organisations and cooperatives, which are helping people with disabilities in the province, to apply for funding through its Grant-In-Aid programme.

The annual project is part of the department’s development plan aimed at supporting emerging arts and culture organisations.

A whopping R1.798 million has been set aside to achieve this objective in the 2014/2015 financial year.

According to the department, allocation of funds is dependent on a number of criteria, with organisations that create job opportunities as well as those whose beneficiaries are mainly women, the youth and people with disabilities being given first preference.

The provincial Arts and Culture Council, which administers the distribution of the funds, also monitors the use thereof.

Members of the council ensure the money is used effectively by conducting random visits to the grant beneficiaries throughout the year.

Groups that have been funded twice will not be considered, with the exception of organisations in rural areas that have shown significant merit.

Application forms can be collected from the department’s regional offices across the province or downloaded from the department’s website. The deadline for submissions is June 13, 2014. - SAnews.gov.za
