KZN makes progress in fighting sex crimes

Pretoria – The KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences (FCS) Unit will mark the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence against Women and Children campaign with good convictions in sex related offences.

According to the KwaZulu-Natal SAPS, during the month of October, the men and women in blue arrested a total of 368 people for various sex related crimes including rape, assault, kidnapping and sexual assaults.

“During the same month, the members achieved 50 convictions.of which are seven life sentences and a total of 444 years imprisonment meted out to other accused for various crimes.

“KwaZulu-Natal Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Units investigated cases that were opened in all the areas in the province including, Durban suburbs, townships, the rural areas, the South Coast and the North Coast.”

Lieutenant General Mmamonnye Ngobeni vowed that the members will not stop to protect children and women from the perpetrators.

“We will ensure that they are prosecuted and kept behind bars. The efforts by KwaZulu-Natal FCS to solve the cases is commended and we applaud their dedication to keep our children safe,” said Lieutenant General Ngobeni.  – SAnews.gov.za
