Job seekers warned against scam

Pretoria - The Gauteng Department of Health has warned the public of a scam by a man who is allegedly offering employment at Emergency Medical Services (EMS) in exchange for money.

The allegations of the scam surfaced after a number of vacant posts, which were advertised by Gauteng EMS last year in order to maximise capacity in the communication centre, districts and bases.

“Recently, EMS has experienced several complaints from people who claim that they have been called by an individual who stated that he works in EMS, promising jobs for a fee of R10 000.

“The positions were advertised in the media and were open to all Gauteng residents to apply. Applications were received and short-listing and interviews were conducted. Most of the employees have started working,” said Health MEC Hope Papo.

The department warned people not to pay anyone for jobs as it was not the proper way of getting employment in the public sector.

“As the department, we would like to warn job seekers against this practice. I encourage victims of this scam to report the matter to the police, so the allegations can be thoroughly investigated and culprits brought to justice,” said Papo.

He added that no fee was requested for an application and/or placement in the public sector.

These incidents have been reported to the police and investigations are underway. – SAnews.gov.za
