Inquiry on NPA boss to proceed

Sunday, February 1, 2015

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma will proceed with the enquiry into the fitness of the National Director of Public Prosecutions Mxolisi Nxasana to hold office, the Presidency has said.

President Zuma has requested that the enquiry proceed expeditiously so the matter could be resolved, Presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj said.

Nxasana was appointed into the position in October 2013. But his fitness to hold office came under the spotlight after it emerged he did not have the required security clearance for the post and revelations of a 1985 murder case and a reckless driving charge. He was acquitted on murder charges.

The National Prosecuting Authority Act allows the president to suspend the NDPP pending such inquiry into his or her fitness to hold such office as the president deems fit. –SANews.gov.za
