IMC on Public Employment Programme to meet

Wednesday, July 22, 2015

Pretoria – Deputy President Cyril Ramaphosa is expected to chair the inaugural meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Public Employment Programme in Orange Farm later today.

The Public Employment Programme Inter Ministerial Committee (PEP-IMC), which is chaired by the Deputy President, champions the importance of the public employment opportunities within government and the wider society.

Public employment programmes are implemented under the auspices of the Expanded Public Works Programme (EPWP) and create short-term employment for poor and unemployed South Africans.

The Presidency said the EPWP is one of government’s strategic priorities aimed at creating six million work opportunities by 2019, hence the need for public employment programmes to contribute optimally to social cohesion and community development.

The formation of the PEP-IMC is to provide a high-level and collective leadership to achieve these outcomes.

As part of the programme for the day, Deputy President Ramaphosa will also visit a community work programme site in the area to highlight progress achieved in skills development and job creation. – SAnews.gov.za
