Pretoria - Gauteng Health MEC Hope Papo has commended the management of Dr George Mukhari Academic Hospital for taking action against officials alleged to be contravening recruitment procedures.

The management suspended 17 officials (pending investigation), who worked in different sections of the hospital, after they were suspected of selling jobs and appointing their family members and friends.

“The department will not tolerate any form of misconduct by any staff member and those who are found to have been involved in this scam will be dealt with accordingly,” said Papo.

Papo also encouraged members of the community to report any official who solicits money in exchange for job opportunities.

He reiterated that incompetency, negligence and misconduct have no place in any Gauteng public health facility.

“Those who are found guilty of these acts will be kicked out of the system and if they are also found to be criminally liable for their actions, the law must take its course.

“Complaints must be directed to heads of our public health institutions or submitted through our 24 hour call centre which is 0860 011 000,” he said. – SAnews.gov.za
