Home Affairs open on Election Day

Monday, May 5, 2014

Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs will open all its offices across the country on Wednesday, 7 May, in line with the voting hours declared by the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC).

This is to assist citizens with documentation that will help them to vote.

Home Affairs will issue documents such as temporary identity certificates and letters of confirmation of identity, and give people a chance to collect their green bar coded IDs and smart ID cards.

As part of preparations for delivering services ahead of Election Day, Home Affairs offices across the country will also from Monday and Tuesday, open their offices from 07:30am to 7:30pm, for citizens to access services that they may require for purposes of voting.

Home Affairs reminded the public that President Jacob Zuma has declared Wednesday, 7 May as a national holiday to allow citizens time to vote.

All Home Affairs officials, who will be working on Wednesday, have been afforded an opportunity alongside all other essential services, to cast special votes across the country to enable them to serve the citizenry to the best of their ability on voting day. - SAnews.gov.za
