Home Affairs online system down

Friday, September 11, 2015

Pretoria - The Department of Home Affairs wishes to inform members of the public that its online verification system, HANIS, is down due to cables that were damaged.

The damage to the cables resulted in a power failure at the department’s New Co-operation building where the system is located.

Consequently, systems that require HANIS verification such as live capturing of Smart ID cards as well as passports have been affected.

Electricians have been working all night to replace the cables while the Home Affairs IT team is on standby to restore the server.

“We apologise for the inconvenience caused and wish to reiterate our commitment to providing a quality service to our clients,” said the department’s spokesperson Thabo Mokgola.

The system is expected to be up and running by later today. – SAnews.gov.za
