Govt meets religious leaders

Pretoria - Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe this afternoon led a government delegation in a meeting with leaders and representatives of the religious sector.

The meeting, held at the Sefako Makgato Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria, provided a platform for the religious community and government to jointly reflect on the past 20 years of democracy and exchange views on how to move South Africa forward.

According to the Presidency, the meeting also discussed plans for the celebration of South Africa’s 20 years of democracy.

The religious leaders indicated that since the 27th April 2014 falls on a Sunday, they would urge their members to dedicate that day for their congregations to celebrate 20 years of democracy.

The religious leaders expressed their commitment to establish a working partnership with government to confront current challenges and build a better South Africa. – SAnews.gov.za
