The initiative, under the theme “ICT in Education: Leveraging ICTs to improve Basic Education”, aims to enhance the country’s standard of basic education system.

“The Operation Phakisa in Education when launched is anticipated to, amongst other things, address the need to train and prepare teachers to integrate ICT in their classrooms and change their teaching practices aligned to the ICT resources,” said the Presidency.

It will further address the need to develop, source and distribute high class Digital Content for all subjects starting with high priority subjects such as Maths and Science and digital resources to support the Incremental Introduction and African Languages.

The term Phakisa "hurry up" in Sotho is purposed at communicating the urgency in service delivery using the Malaysian-inspired Big Fast Results Approach.

The 9-point plan has already started in the Health and Marine sectors with the mining sector also targeted in the near future.

The main aim of this strategic operation is to bring business and government together in building the dream South Africa. – SAnews.gov.za
