Govt is fighting corruption: Manyi

Cape Town - Government is on top of the situation when it comes to fighting corruption wherever it exists within its ranks, says Cabinet spokesman Jimmy Manyi.

Addressing the Press Club on World Press Day, Manyi said government had a zero tolerance on corruption and was on "top of the game" in the fight against that.

He promised to assist journalists if they could not get information from a government department - for example if a spokesman was avoiding the media.

"But let me know if something has really worked out well for you, so I can ensure that we can do more of the same. Give us your ideas on how we could do our job better. Between your mission and our mandate, we should remain focused not on personality issues, but on outcomes," he said.

He called on the media to be truthful and fair when reporting on government's position on issues.

He further said that the government remained committed to delivering to the people, and recently set aside R9 billion for job creation among several other initiatives to uplift communities.
