Pretoria - Government and the Congress of South African Trade Unions (Cosatu) have agreed that an urgent solution is needed to resolve the Taxation Laws Amendment Act stalemate.

Minister in Presidency for Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation Jeff Radebe met with the leadership of Cosatu on Saturday, 6 February. Minister Radebe has been mandated by President Jacob Zuma to assist National Treasury and Cosatu in their discussions relating to the new tax laws.

"Both government and Cosatu agreed that a solution should be expedited to resolve the impasse. The Presidency is working with the relevant government departments to find the quickest possible legal route to resolving the issues.

"It was also agreed that the affected parties should be given enough time to discuss the matter with a view to reaching consensus," said the Presidency in a statement.

Minister Radebe, according to the Presidency, is satisfied that the discussions are going well thus far. - SAnews.gov.za
