Pretoria - The Gauteng Department of Social Development has dismissed an employee, who was caught selling drugs to youngsters.

The 20-year-old official, who was on an internship programme, was allegedly selling drugs to youth in the precinct of the Johannesburg Library Gardens.

He has been under police surveillance, who investigated his dealings.

Social Development MEC Faith Mazibuko commended members of Community Safety for apprehending the suspect.

“It is regrettable that an official, who is expected to assist in curbing the scourge of substance abuse, has undermined the very government that is at pains to help vulnerable youths that are ravaged by many social pathologies,” said the MEC.

MEC Mazibuko said the department is committed to clean governance and will act decisively on officials that are suspected of any misdemeanor. – SAnews.gov.za
