Pretoria - Gauteng Premier David Makhura will this evening lead a night vigil against police killings in the province.
The night vigil will be held in partnership with the Gauteng Provincial Government, Crime Line and the Gauteng Community Police Board. MEC for Community Safety Sizakele Nkosi-Malobane, police leadership and anti-crime activists are expected to join the vigil.
The provincial government has urged the public to attend in large numbers and bring candles to the vigil which will be held from 6pm at the Johannesburg Central Police Station.
This follows a spate of brutal killings of police officers while on duty. Seven officers, including members of the South Africa Police Service (SAPS) and traffic officers, have been killed this week.
Government has called upon law enforcement agencies to work around the clock to bring all those responsible for these senseless attacks and killings to book. – SAnews.gov.za
