Pretoria - The National School of Government (NSG) and the French government have signed a memorandum of understanding to train South African government officials in France on a yearly basis.
The memorandum of understanding was signed on Thursday in Pretoria by the Principal of the NSG Richard Levin, representatives from the French government and training institution Ecole Nationale D’Administration (ENA).
The training will include management courses on local government, anti-corruption, organisation of parliamentary work and management in the public sector and is aimed at capacitating civil servants to initiate sustainable projects with lasting impact.
Head of Department Africa/ Middle East within ENA Matthieu Leclerc said the partnership between ENA and the NSG is important as it creates a space where learning will take place by both partners with similar ambitions to capacitate the state.
Levin said the project needs to the taken to greater heights. “We need to tailor-make the programme into an African governance programme and it must be offered as a higher diploma and later at a Masters level,” said Levin.
He said the programme should be created at a global level and must resonate with the African continent.
The ENA training programmes, the French Embassy and the NSG agreed that the scope of the partnership should be expanded to include other areas of collaboration such as exchange of information and publications on training programmes, exchange of trainees, students, top civil servants, research programmes and colloquiums, among others. - SAnews.gov.za
