Pretoria - The Passenger Rail Agency of South Africa (Prasa) is providing free transport to mourners, who wish to attend the funeral services and burial of the fallen sporting heroes, Mbulaeni Mulaudzi, Senzo Meyiwa and Phindile Mwelase.

According to the agency’s spokesperson, Moffet Mofokeng, following a consultation with Athletics South Africa, Boxing SA, Orlando Pirates and the families of the three athletes, Prasa took a decision to bid the patriots a resounding farewell.

“Prasa has availed 10 buses and two trains to the football fraternity, in particular Orlando Pirates fans, to travel to KwaZulu-Natal from Gauteng to attend the funeral service and burial of Bafana Bafana captain Senzo Meyiwa,” he said.

Mofokeng said all the buses will depart at 7pm later today at different pick-up points around Gauteng, while the trains will depart at 7pm and 7.30pm, respectively.

However, he said details of all the departure points can be obtained from Orlando Pirates.

The agency has provided 10 more buses to Athletics South Africa to help transport mourners to the funeral service and burial of Olympic medallist Mbulaeni Mulaudzi at his village of Muduluni, in Limpopo.

“Five buses will depart from Braamfontein in Johannesburg, three from Pilditch Stadium in Pretoria and two from Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane. These buses will transport mourners to Muduluni village outside Makhado, the birthplace of Mulaudzi,” he said.

Four buses will transport mourners to the funeral of female boxer, Phindile Mwelase, in Ladysmith, KwaZulu-Natal. Mofokeng said two buses will depart from Nasrec Boxing Arena in Johannesburg, while one will depart from Alice Road in Durban.

“There will be a bus that will pick up mourners at the Water Meet Village in Ladysmith to the home of the late Mwelase.

“In KwaZulu-Natal, all football fans can travel by train to attend Meyiwa’s funeral service at Moses Mabhida Stadium free of charge,” he said.

Mofokeng said the trains will transport the fans from all corridors in the province to and from the stadium. - SAnews.gov.za
