Financial, Fiscal Commission members appointed

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has appointed members to the Financial and Fiscal Commission for a period of five years, with effect from 28 July 2014.

According to the Presidency, the President appointed the members in terms of section 221(1) of the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996, read with sections 5(1) and 8 of the Financial and Fiscal Commission Act, 1997 (Act No. 99 of 1997).

These members are Sipho Lubisi, Dr Gilingwe Mayende and Dr Sibongile Muthwa.

“We congratulate these members on their new roles and we are certain that they will serve the Commission to the best of their abilities,” said President Zuma.

The Financial and Fiscal Commission is an independent, objective, impartial and unbiased constitutional advisory institution.

It is a permanent expert Commission with a constitutionally defined structure, set of generic responsibilities and institutional processes.

The Commission has the responsibility to advise and make recommendations to Parliament, provincial legislatures, organised local government and other organs of State on financial and fiscal matters.

Its primary role is to ensure the creation and maintenance of an effective, equitable and sustainable system of inter-governmental fiscal relations in South Africa. – SAnews.gov.za
