Eskom: no load shedding expected

Friday, June 26, 2015

Pretoria - There is currently no load shedding taking place as Eskom has adequate generating capacity to meet the demand in electricity.

In a statement on Friday, the utility said the power system, however, will remain constrained throughout the day, especially during the evening peak period 5pm – 9pm mainly as a result of increased electricity demand.

Eskom urged electricity users to find energy efficient ways of keeping warm during the current cold weather.

“In winter the electricity demand peaks in the morning and evening as more electricity is used during these times.

“We appeal to all our customers to continue to reduce their electricity usage throughout the day but to be aware of the need to save more during the peak periods from 6am to 10am and 5pm to 9pm,” said Eskom.

Also, commercial customers, particularly shopping centres and office blocks, can also make a big difference by switching off non-essential lights and not leaving office equipment such as photocopiers and computers in standby mode after hours. – SAnews.gov.za
