Energy Regulator CEO placed on leave

Pretoria - The National Energy Regulator of South Africa (NERSA) CEO, Smunda Mokoena, has been placed on a leave of absence.

The leave of absence starts with immediate effect, following revelations of allegations of gross transgression of the regulator's code of conduct.

"The Energy Regulator endeavours at all times to foster the highest standards of corporate governance and it is in keeping with this tradition that we have acted swiftly and in this manner," NERSA chairperson Cecilia Khuzwayo said on Monday.

Khuzwayo said Mokoena's absence would not hinder the execution of Nersa's mandate.
