Pretoria- Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Municipality on Sunday said technicians were continuing to repair the substation at Alberton that was left damaged after two transformer oil valves were stolen in the early hours of Friday morning.
The municipality said it is currently supplying electricity to affected areas on a rotational three-hour load reduction cycle as a result. This in order to equitably share the available electricity capacity.
Ekurhuleni Acting Spokesperson Lebogang Ramashala said: "The Ekurhuleni Metro assures residents and business owners that work will continue until power is fully restored to all areas.”
"Technicians have managed to repair the two transformers and have replaced the oil. However, the equipment did not pass tests last night and can therefore not be energized yet," he said.
He said the load sharing cycles are being implemented in affected areas including Alrode Industrial area, Thokoza Hostels, Basothong, Mpilisweni, and Phenduka.
