Ekurhuleni offers free truck assessments

Thursday, October 16, 2014

Pretoria - The City of Ekurhuleni is calling on truck owners with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) of 3 500kg and above to visit its testing stations for free vehicle assessments.

The free vehicles assessment campaign is open for the entire month of October to mark National Transport Month.

The participating testing stations include those in Nigel, Springs, Brakpan, Germiston, Boksburg and Kempton Park.

“Ensuring that we have roadworthy vehicles on our roads is fundamental for us as a city because we have a high volume of heavy vehicles driving in and out of our city due to the large industries that we have in our municipal area.

“We also encourage public operators to continue on a regular basis to test their vehicles even beyond the campaign,” said Member of the Mayoral Committee on Transport, Thumbu Mahlangu.

The free test campaign aims to curb fatal road accidents as a result of vehicle un-roadworthiness. Taxis and buses are also encouraged to come for tests.

The assessment involves the checking of tyres, breaks, hand breaks, steering mechanism and the general condition of the vehicle.

All public transport operators are encouraged to take the opportunity to be informed about the roadworthy status of their vehicles so that corrective measures can be taken to prevent deadly accidents. – SAnews.gov.za
