E Cape to have Deputy Judge President

Wednesday, December 17, 2014

Pretoria - As part of strengthening judicial governance, the Eastern Cape province will now have a Deputy Judge President.

This after President Jacob Zuma determined that the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court shall have a Deputy Judge President, whose headquarters shall be Bhisho, the local seat of the Eastern Cape Division of the High Court.

The move, according to the Presidency, will promote effective coordination of judicial functions in the division.

“This measure is necessary to support the process of the rationalisation of the High Courts in the province. The mandate to rationalise all courts finds reflection in Section 16 of Schedule 6 to the Constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996,” Presidency spokesperson Mac Maharaj said on Wednesday. – SAnews.gov.za
