Friday, July 24, 2015

Pretoria - Deputy Minister in the Presidency for Planning Monitoring and Evaluation, Youth Development as well as Administration, Buti Manamela will on Sunday participate in the 702 Walk the Talk.

He will be participating in the walk to raise awareness and funds for girls who abstain from school due to a lack of sanitary towels.

“I have always been passionate about addressing girl’s education, especially for girls in rural areas. I am therefore participating in the 702 Walk the Talk in order to bring attention and action to this important cause,” Deputy Minister Manamela said on Friday.

Through the partnership with Dignity Dreams many young girls who previously had no sanitary towels have now been provided with sanitary towels, thereby keeping the girls in school for up to five years and enabling them to have a brighter future.

“On conclusion of the 15km walk, Deputy Minister Manamela will auction the T-shirt he walked with on Twitter and the funds raised will go towards the purchase of more Dignity Dreams sanitary towels,” the Presidency said.

Any member of the public who would like to bid for the Deputy Minister’s race T-shirt is welcome to tweet @ButiManamela #DMwalkthetalktshirt with the amount they are bidding for the T-shirt.

The auction will take place from 10am on Sunday morning.

Members of the public are also encouraged to sms Dignity to 40287 in order to donate R20 towards a Dignity Dreams sanitary towels pack. – SAnews.gov.za
