Pretoria – Arts and Culture Deputy Minister Rejoice Mabudafhasi has encouraged South Africans to read so they can contribute to building the country.

“When you read you are going to go places, when you read you gain knowledge that will build your life and by reading you discover yourself,” Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi said.

She was speaking on Monday at the National Library of South Africa, in Pretoria, where she performed community service as part of the Mandela Month activities.

She said the National Library was very important because it was not only learners but also adults who were doing research and benefitting from the services offered by the National Library.

“The more you read, the more you discover other things that you can achieve in your life, when you read you discover who you are and also maybe tomorrow you can become an author or do better,” Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi said.

She decided to perform community service as a librarian at the National Library of South Africa in honour of the late Nelson Mandela because she worked as a librarian for 29 years at the University of Limpopo (Turfloop).

Deputy Minister Mabudafhasi was joined by the National Librarian and CEO of the National Library of South Africa, Professor Rocky Ralebipi-Simela.

While at the library the Deputy Minister interacted with learners who were at the library, she registered for a library card, visited the preservation room and registered users on the personal request form for statistics purposes. – SAnews.gov.za
