Dept warns of soldier recruitment scam

Thursday, October 1, 2009

Pretoria - The Department of Defence and Military Veterans has again warned members of the public to be on the look out for scammers who pretend to recruit new and former soldiers with the promise of cash payments.

These scammers are soliciting money from the public with the promise of integration into the South African National Defence Force (SANDF).

"The department would once again like to reiterate that there has been no integration planned by the department as the integration process ended when Termination of Integration Intake Act of 2001 and the Demobilisation Amendment Act of 2001 formally and legally brought the Integration process to an end on 31 December 2002," said the department in a statement.

It was concerned that the perpetrators of the scam have not spared women and children by inviting them to assemble at SANDF Military Bases with the promise of integration or cash payments.

"The department strongly condemns activities aimed at deliberately misleading members of the public regarding integration into the SANDF," it said.

The public have been urged to report any person or persons who perpetrate the scam to the police.
