Defence mourns passing of Lt Gen Mdutyana

Pretoria – Defence and Military Veterans Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula has announced the passing on of the Chief of Joint Operations (C JOPS) Lieutenant-General Duma Dumisani Mdutyana. 

Lt Gen Mdutyana passed on this morning after a short illness. He fell ill while on duty abroad and was hospitalised upon his return.

The Minister and the Chief of the South African National Defence Force, General Shoke, have conveyed their heartfelt condolences to the family, relatives, friends, colleagues and comrades of the late Lt Gen Mdutyana.

The Minister and her deputy Kebby Maphatsoe are currently in France honouring the lives of South African troops who died and were buried in Arque-la-Bataille, near Dieppe and Delville Wood, in Longueval.

A memorial service will be held in Arque-la-Bataille in remembrance of all those South African troops, who for many years, have gone unrecognised for their participation in the 1st World War, also known as the Great War.

The commemoration coincides with the state visit to France by President Jacob Zuma. – SAnews.gov.za
