Court to hear NPA's bid to appeal Pistorius sentencing

Pretoria - The South Gauteng High Court will this morning hear the National Prosecuting Authority’s application for leave to appeal the Oscar Pistorius sentencing.

The former athlete was initially convicted of culpable homicide for killing his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp in 2013. He was sentenced to five years in prison. However, the Supreme Court of Appeal ruled he should be convicted of murder and be re-sentenced.

Last month, Judge Thokozile Masipa sentenced Pistorius to six years in prison, which the state says is too lenient.

Pistorius’s legal team is set to argue that the State’s application to appeal his sentence is without merit.
