Pretoria – The Bokone Bophirima Provincial Government says it is bracing itself for an influx of about 20 000 soccer fans for Saturday’s Maize Triangle Challenge soccer tournament.

The game has attracted huge interest from not only around Bokone Bophirima, Free State and Mpumalanga Provinces, but from the neighbouring Botswana as well, the provincial government said on Monday.

The Bokone Bophirima Maize Triangle Challenge is a one-day soccer tournament initiated as part of the bigger vision to rebrand, reposition and renew the province.

This tournament will be hosted at Moruleng Stadium on Saturday.

It is anticipated that Bokone Bophirima Maize Triangle Challenge will not just be a preeminent soccer event but an activity that will boost the development of Small Medium and Micro Enterprises in the area.

“To ensure that local SMMEs participate and benefit from the hosting of this tournament, the Local Organising Committee has invited all SMMEs to attend a briefing and registration session that is scheduled for Tuesday and Wednesday this week,” said acting provincial spokesperson Brian Setswambung.

He urged vendors who wish to market and sell their products during the tournament to attend this important session.

The briefing sessions will be held at Moruleng Stadium, from 09h00 until 13h00 during these two days.

In an effort to equip young talent with skills for professional football, a soccer clinic for 200 youngsters selected from around Moses Kotane Local Municipality will be held at the Holy Family School in Mogwase on Friday.

The clinics will be conducted by professional footballers from the four teams participating in the Bokone Bophirima Maize Triangle Challenge.

On Saturday, Platinum Stars will face Township Rollers in the first semi-final which will start at 10h00, while the second semi-final will be a clash between Bloemfontein Celtics and Mpumalanga Black Aces. The finals will start at 17h00.

Tickets for the full day soccer spectacular, which continue to sell fast, are available at Computicket and its outlets.

Residents are encouraged to buy tickets and be part of this historic event in the Bokone Bophirima Province. The event is also a family affair, filled with entertainment for the young and old. – SAnews.gov.za
