Correctional Services officials recognised at awards ceremony

Pretoria – The Department of Correctional Services has honoured officials who have excelled in their work at an event held at the Cape Town International Convention Centre.

“The top 11 gold medallists were selected by independent judges from 66 nominees coming from all six regions of Correctional Services, who themselves were selected from thousands of submissions coming from 243 correctional centres nationally,” Department of Correctional Services spokesperson Manelisi Wolela said.

The awards were handed to recipients by the Deputy Minister of Justice and Correctional Services Thabang Makwetla and Acting National Commissioner Zach Modise at an event on Thursday night.

“Corrections Excellence torch-bearers recognised for distinguished performance covering 11categories will join a growing elite group of Ambassadors of Excellence,” Wolela said.

The recipients of the Corrections Excellence torch-bearers include Bongi Masilela of the Rustenburg Correctional Centre in the Limpopo, Mpumalanga and North West Region for the Batho Pele Award.

The award for Good Governance was given to Silungile Gumede of Krugersdorp Correctional Centre in Gauteng; the Masibambisane Award was given to Bulelani Letuka of Kokstad Management Area in KwaZulu-Natal.

Lewis Carolissen of Allandale Management Area in the Western Cape received the Public Safety Award and Norman Luthuli of Empangeni Management Area in KwaZulu-Natal was given the Education and Training award. – SAnews.gov.za
