Correctional services gets new Commissioner

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Pretoria - Chief executive for government printing works, Thomas Swahibi Moyane, has been appointed as the new national commissioner of Correctional Services.

Government spokesman Themba Maseko made the announcement on Thursday at a post-Cabinet briefing.

Moyane joined the Government Printing Works five years ago after leaving the Department of Trade and Industry, where he was chief director of strategic competitiveness.

An economist by training, Moyane replaces Xoliswa Sibeko who was suspended in July last year for renting an upmarket house for R30 000 a month at the taxpayers' expense. Sibeko's contract was due to expire in August 2010.

Later the findings in the disciplinary enquiry cleared Sibeko on all three charges brought against her including the rental of private property at State expense and travel abroad with her husband at State cost.

However, Correctional Services Minister Nosiviwe Mapisa-Nqakula made it clear that she did not want her to return to work.
