Pretoria – Transport Minister Dipuo Peters has conveyed her condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Maritzburg United Football club star, Mondli Cele, as well as SABC sports journalist Delisile Ngwenya who died in a car accident.
Cele and Ngwenya were involved in a car accident in Pietermaritzburg at the weekend.
Minister Peters appealed to road users to exercise caution on the roads and drive safely at all times.
“As traffic volumes begin to normalise, I would like to once again call upon all South Africans to refrain from using cell phones, driving at excessively high speeds and driving while intoxicated because this obscene behaviour has dire consequences,” she said.
The Festive Season Road Crash and Fatalities Statistics which were released last week indicate that the majority of fatal accidents occurred on weekends, a combined total of 57.9 percent from Friday to Sunday. – SAnews.gov.za
