Pretoria - Public Enterprises Minister Lynne Brown has conveyed her condolences to the family of an Eskom contract worker who died at the Medupi power station.

“I am saddened by the death of the contract worker and would like to express my sympathy to his family and colleagues. I have requested Eskom to continuously review its safety procedures on site to prevent and minimise a recurrence,” said Minister Brown.

The worker fell to his death on Tuesday. He was working in a construction area at the Limpopo power station at the time of his death.

“Although the deceased is a contract worker, Eskom has to ensure that all contractors comply with all safety measures at their sites,” said Minister Brown.

Medupi is the fourth dry-cooled baseload station built by Eskom. In December 2015, the power station was declared a National Key Point. – SAnews.gov.za
