Competition Tribunal chair reappointed

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has reappointed the chairperson and members of the Competition Tribunal.

In a statement on Monday, the Presidency said that Norman Manoim has been reappointed as chairperson and a full time member of the Tribunal.

This will be Manoim’s second stint as chairperson. He was first appointed to the position in 2009.

He has served as a full-time member of the Competition Tribunal since its inception in September 1999.

President Zuma further reappointed Andrea Wessels as a full-time member; Yasmin Carrim as a full-time member; Andiswa Ndoni as a part-time member and Medi Mokuena as a part-time member.

Their reappointments are for a five-year period from 1 August 2014 ending on 31 July 2019.

“The President has further appointed, in terms of section 26(2)(b) read with section 29(2) of the Act, Ms Mondo Mazwai as a full-time member of the Competition Tribunal for a period of five years ending on 31 July 2019,”  said the Presidency.

The President further wished the members well.

The President appoints members of the Tribunal on the recommendation of the Minister of Economic Development.

The Competition Tribunal has jurisdiction throughout South Africa and adjudicates competition matters in accordance with the Competition Act (Act 89 of 1998). - SAnews.gov.za
