Chief of SANDF logistics passes away

Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has expressed his condolences following the death of Military Command and Chief of Logistics of the South African National Defence Force (SANDF) Lieutenant General Bongani Mbatha.

“The Commander-in-Chief wishes to express his condolences to the Mbatha family, the Minister of Defence and Military Veterans, the Chief of the South African National Defence Force and the entire SANDF,” said the Presidency in a statement issued on Wednesday.

General Mbatha was born in Johannesburg in 1957. He attended Alexander High School where he got involved in students political activities.

He left the country in 1979 to join the African National Congress’s military wing Umkhonto weSizwe in Angola.

On his return to South Africa, General Mbatha was integrated into the SANDF in 1994 in which he served the logistics division and SA Army in various capacities. - SAnews.gov.za
