Pretoria – The upcoming Career Development Services Stakeholders Conference is expected to bring together stakeholders to share practices and discuss the future of career development services in South Africa.

The Ministry of Higher Education and Training will host the first annual two-day conference on Thursday at the Lake Hotel and Conference Centre, in Benoni.

Themed ‘Sustainable Career Development Services for economic development in South Africa’, the conference also aims to constitute the National Consultative Forum (NCF) as per the framework.

Higher Education and Training Minister Dr Blade Nzimande was tasked by Cabinet in 2010 to coordinate Career Development Services in South Africa.

In 2012, the department published the ‘Framework for cooperation in the provision of Career Development Services in South Africa’.

The framework identified a need for a structured approach in coordinating career development services stakeholders.

Higher Education and Training Deputy Minister Mduduzi Manana, including Deputy Minister of Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Buti Manamela and Deputy Minister of Basic Education, Enver Surty, are among the government officials expected to attend and take part during panel discussions at the conference.

Deputy Minister Manamela would discuss Career Development Services and Youth Development in South Africa, while Deputy Minister Surty looks at Career Development Services in South African schools. – SAnews.gov.za
