Candidates of group copying can register for supps

Pretoria – Matric candidates, who were implicated in group copying during the National Senior Certificate (NSC) 2014 examinations, can register for the 2015 Supplementary examinations, says the Eastern Cape Education Department.

The department has requested candidates to register, following an approval from Education Minister Angie Motshekga for them to get a special concession in their respective schools or districts.

“This approval for them to register is granted on the basis that these candidates were assisted by the Chief Invigilator, Invigilator, or Subject teachers and did not act on their own… [They] did not act on their own accord,” the department said on Wednesday.

However, in cases where candidates initiated the copying, the department said special concession will not apply.

“These candidates will be allowed to write the supplementary examinations in the subjects in which they are implicated in group copying. It needs to be noted that this is a ‘once off’ dispensation given the special circumstances,” said the department. - SAnews.gov.za
