Cabinet approves 6th IPAP

Thursday, March 20, 2014

Pretoria - Cabinet has approved the 6th Annual Iterative Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP), which will be launched next month.

“Cabinet approved the 6th Annual Iterative Industrial Policy Action Plan (IPAP) 2014/15-2016/17 for implementation,” Acting Minister of Performance Monitoring and Evaluation, Angie Motshekga, said on Thursday at a post Cabinet briefing.

At a briefing earlier this month, Trade and Industry Minister Rob Davies said that a draft of IPAP had been prepared.

“We’ve prepared a draft but IPAP is not a policy document or action plan of the dti -- it’s of government as a whole, so we have to take it through government processes. We are ready to launch it at the appropriate time,” he said at the time.

At Thursday’s briefing, Minister Motshekga said Minister Davies will address media when IPAP is launched next month.

The overriding goal of IPAP is to prevent industrial decline and support the growth and diversification of South Africa’s manufacturing sector.

The Department of Trade and Industry (dti) launched the fifth iteration of IPAP, which includes specific action plans to promote industrial growth and reduce unemployment, in April last year.
