Business unusual to improve service delivery

Pretoria – The principal of the National School of Government, Lekoa Mollo, says it cannot be business as usual as government seeks ways to improve service delivery across the nation.

“We could do better if we change the way we do business. There is a need to get back to the basics. We must do what we committed to do,” he said.

Speaking to SAnews on the sidelines of the Public Sector Trainers’ Forum (PSTF) on Monday, Mollo said role players in all spheres of government must pull together to address the bottlenecks in service delivery.

Mollo said ways must be found to standardise and extend the reach of good service delivery.

He said the PSTF was a good forum to bring together stakeholders in the public service from national, provincial and local government, parastatals and higher education sectors.

Established in 1997 as a non-statutory body to advocate Human Resource Development (HRD) within the public sector, the PSTF aims to build capacity to better respond to public sector training and development needs.

The PSTF strives to advance the development and growth of HRD practitioners and to foster partnerships with stakeholders to improve HRD practices.

The PSTF is managed by the National School of Government, which was launched on 21 October 2013. The school aims to create a culture of high productivity in the public sector by ensuring that public servants are trained to serve the citizens of South Africa better.

Researchers, academics, government officials and international HR practitioners are among those attending the forum currently underway at the CSIR International Convention Centre in Pretoria.

The theme for this year’s conference is Building capacity for higher productivity in the public sector. – SAnews.gov.za
