Pretoria - North West Premier Thandi Modise has welcomed the arrest of two suspects in connection with the alleged car hijacking, kidnapping and gruesome murder of a 42-year-old woman.

The women’s body was recovered from the Rooiwal river near Hammanskraal.

The premier condemned the incident and applauded the police for the swift arrest of the suspects.

“We urge police not to leave any stone unturned until the two remaining suspects are behind bars,” Premier Modise said, calling for no-bail for the arrested suspects.

According to police, a couple was hijacked and kidnapped by three unknown men, who pointed a firearm at them at Mmakau, outside Brits, last Monday morning at about 2am.

“They were ordered to get out of their vehicle, where they had allegedly parked near a local pub. It is reported that the two suspects instructed the male companion, also aged 42, to drive with them to Soshanguve and the third suspect took the woman to an unidentified vehicle, which was parked nearby,” Captain Pelonomi Makau said.

According to information, the unidentified vehicle had another male passenger, who was later identified as the estranged husband to the woman.

“It is further alleged that the unidentified vehicle followed the boyfriend’s vehicle, and at Soshanguve, the suspects instructed the boyfriend to drive back to Mmakau,” Captain Makau said.

The unidentified vehicle, together with the three suspects, the girlfriend and the male passenger, drove away.

The boyfriend reported the ordeal to the police and one suspect was arrested on Thursday and the other one was arrested on Friday.

The two suspects were arrested at Soshanguve and Stinkwater respectively.

It is alleged that on Friday, the husband confessed to dumping his estranged wife at Rooiwal river near Hammanskraal.

The police in Hammanskraal recovered a body of an unknown woman at Rooiwal river, which was later identified as the estranged wife.

Makau said that police investigations are continuing. – SAnews.gov.za
