Pretoria - President Jacob Zuma has determined 1 August 2015 as the day which the Geomatics Professions Act and the Property Valuation Act will come into operation.

The Presidency on Wednesday said the President has, in terms of section 40 of the Geomatics Professions Act, 2013 (Act No. 19 of 2013), determined the date as suitable to bring the Act into operation. He assented to it in December 2013.

“The Act aims to, amongst others, provide for the transformation of the Geomatics Profession and for the establishment of the South African Geomatics Council as a juristic person as well as facilitation of access to the Geomatics Profession.

“The Act also provides the different categories of registered persons and branches in the Geomatics Profession, and identification of area of work to be performed by the different categories of registered persons as well as recognition of certain voluntary associations by the Council,” said the Presidency.

It said the Geomatics Professions Act further provides measures designed to protect the public from unethical Geomatics practices, in order to maintain a high standard of professional conduct and integrity, as well as the establishment of disciplinary mechanism and of an Appeal Board.

The Presidency said the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform is responsible for the implementation and administration of the Geomatics Profession Act.

The Presidency also said the President has, in terms of section 21 of the Property Valuation Act, 2014 (Act No. 17 of 2014), determined 01 August 2015 as the date on which the said Act shall come into operation.

“President Zuma assented to the Act in July 2014. The Act aims to, amongst others, provide for the establishment, functions and powers of the Office of the Valuer-General.

“It will also provide for the regulation of the valuation of property that has been identified for land reform as well as property that has been identified for acquisition or disposal by the Department of Rural Development and Land Reform,” said the Presidency. - SAnews.gov.za
